Working Hours: 2 days a week, days to be determined
M.D. Child Psychiatrist with Florida License. Completed a minimum of three (3) years psychiatric residency training from an accredited residency training program in the United States with a specialization in child/adolescent psychiatry.
- Considerable knowledge of all psychiatric procedures, medications, side effects, and mental illnesses relating to clients. Knowledge of all clinical tests and their applications. Knowledge of all state and federal laws and regulations relating to their profession.
- Knowledge of pharmacology, psychotherapy, physical assessments, neurological psychiatric evaluations.
- Knowledge of growth and development issues for children and/or adolescents.
- Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate/therapeutic communication, boundaries, and activities with children and/or adolescents.
- Demonstrates knowledge of treatment interventions/techniques and common clinical conditions for children and/or adolescents.
- Demonstrates knowledge of common side effects of medications used to treat conditions demonstrated by children and/or adolescents as well as side effects to be aware of.
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic nutritional needs of children and/or adolescents.
- Skills to monitor client’s condition and assess their behavior specific to the age and disability of the client in a professional and courteous manner.
- Skills to effectively assess and monitor the side effects of medications specific to the age and disability of the client.
- Ability to follow procedure, chart medical documentation in client’s permanent record.
- Ability to maintain composure in an emergency/stressful situation.Ability to communicate effectively and develop professional relationships with the client, staff and other allied health professionals.
- Determine an appropriate diagnosis and recommend an initial treatment plan; recommend changes in the treatment plan to include changes/adjustments to the medication for the patients within his/her area of direct responsibility, within the framework of the treatment team; maintain adequate medical records and clinical progress notes.
- Provides psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, treatment plan reviews, medication management, continuity care appointments, and progress noting.
- Provide, upon request, consultation to other medical and/or professional staff members. Provide consultation services to the affiliated general hospitals’ Emergency Rooms and other areas of the hospitals as needed.
- Sign treatment plans and third-party claim forms as appropriate.
- Consults with Medical Director for difficult/challenging cases.
- Attend monthly MSO meetings
- Participate weekly in staff consultation committee meetings (staffings). Participate in staffing and formal treatment plans for intervention services therapists and case managers.
- Works closely with an assigned nurse in both Palatka and St. Augustine as well as their respective medical technician.
- Works with Drug Representatives related to prescriptions and samples
- Monitor effects of psychotropic medications on clients.
- Works with nurse and medical technician on provding feedback on medications required for Prescription Assistance Program (PAP) assistance and/or Indigent Drug Program (IDP).
- Educate clients as to the nature of their illness and the importance of proper medication use.
- Report any serious deficiencies or medication errors immediately to the Medical Director and document such on the appropriate form.
- Attend meetings, committees, and inservice training as instructed by the Medical Director.
- Perform other reasonable duties assigned as agreed upon by the Medical Director.
- Ensure that all licenses, CME, certification to practice as a physician in the State of Florida are current.
- Follow all by-laws and regulations of Putnam- St. Johns Behavioral Healthcare and affiliated hospitals and provide medical services as directed except for authorized sick leave, holidays, vacation, or continuing education. Determination as to exact rotations of on-call duty will be in consultation with the Medical Director.
