This is a professional medical position in which the psychiatrist will provide psychiatric services (evaluation, treatment, etc.) to children and/or adults suffering from mental illness or substance abuse and receiving services in Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare’s inpatient programs located in the Volusia and Flagler Counties.
M.D. Psychiatrist with Florida License. Completed a minimum of three (3) years psychiatric residency training from an accredited residency-training program in the United States. Considerable knowledge of all psychiatric procedures, medications, side effects, and mental illnesses relating to clients.
Be responsible for psychiatric/medical services at Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare’s Emergency Services, CSU, in coordination with other physicians designated for these duties.
On patients age 18 or older, perform a psychiatric/medical examination on new admissions and dictate a psychiatric history, admission summary and discharge summary when required. Provide physical examinations within twenty-four (24) hours of admission unless a documented physician’s physical by a qualified examiner within the previous twenty-four 924) hours is in the file.
Determine an appropriate diagnosis and recommend an initial treatment plan; recommend changes in the treatment plan to include changes/adjustments to the medication for the patients within his/her area of direct responsibility, within the framework of the treatment team; maintain adequate medical records and clinical progress notes.
Provide on-call services 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday to Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare’s Emergency Services, CSU, to include making rounds and being available when off site by telephone on each of the specified days; and to perform admission responsibilities in order to meet Florida State rules which require that each patient admitted must be provided a physical and psychiatric examination within twenty-four (24) hours.
Promote the overall treatment philosophy and milieu therapy program currently in effect in the unit so that the treatment team will participate maximally in such programs.
Provide, upon request, consultation to other medical and/or professional staff members. Provide consultation services to the affiliated general hospitals’ Emergency Rooms and other areas of the hospitals as needed.
Sign treatment plans and third-party claim forms as appropriate.
When necessary, provide appropriate information to authorized managed care representatives for continuation of hospital stays.
Attend Baker Act hearings on inpatients when such action is necessitated. Comply with the provisions of the Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act, as amended), the Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 10, and any guidelines regarding implementation of the Baker Act which may be brought to his/her attention by SMA.
Shall participate in reasonable administrative duties assigned by the Medical Director.
Shall provide consultation to all treatment team staff members assigned to these inpatient facilities and staff conferences to provide clarification of treatment philosophy and methodology.
Shall participate, upon request, in necessary treatment related training programs or other teaching functions necessary to the agency’s compliance with requirements of accrediting bodies.
Attend meetings, committees, and in-service training as instructed by the Medical Director.
Perform other reasonable duties assigned as agreed upon by the Medical Director.
Ensure that all licenses, CME, certification to practice as a physician in the State of Florida are current.
Follow all by-laws and regulations of Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare and affiliated hospitals and provide medical services as directed except for authorized sick leave, holidays, vacation, or continuing education. Determination as to exact rotations of on-call duty will be in consultation with the Medical Director.
